Diving into the “Ocean Twilight Zone”

HOPe members enjoyed a special visit from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, which was made possible by the generous support of the Yawkey Foundation. The excitement was high as scientists arrived to teach us about the amazing and unusual creatures living in the "Ocean Twilight Zone," a mysterious area just beyond where sunlight reaches.

The event kicked off with a presentation by marine scientists who shed light on the elusive creatures living just beyond the reach of sunlight. From the tiniest microscopic organisms to some of the ocean's largest and most enigmatic inhabitants, the scientists took our members on a fascinating exploration of this hidden underwater realm.

Our members engaged in hands-on activities that allowed them to connect with the ocean's mysteries in a tangible way. As a fun reminder of the day, each member got a goodie bag filled with ocean-themed treats. The best part was shark bandanas that quickly became a favorite, bringing a bit of marine fun to everyone’s day.

As HOPe members left, their hearts were filled with gratitude for the insights gained and the memories created. It was a day that not only expanded their understanding of the ocean's mysteries but also reinforced the bonds within the HOPe community.
